Antony Gormley’s cast iron sculpture from his series ANOTHER TIME has been acquired on loan by the Turner Contemporary in Margate. It has been positioned on the beach in front of the gallery and fixed to what looks like could be the remains of the old pier foundations. It will remain in situ until the 5th of November At high tide the statue is completely submerged and only becomes increasingly visible as the tide recedes.
Gormley, who is most famous for The Angel of the North, has developed ANOTHER TIME, a series of one hundred sculptures across the UK which are identical to the hundred sculptures of ANOTHER PLACE (2007) which can be found on Crosby beach near Liverpool.
Gormley says “I wish to celebrate the still and silent nature of sculpture. ANOTHER TIME is necessarily isolated, and is an attempt to bear witness to what it is like to be alive and alone in space and time.”
All images are available to purchase as prints or wall art via the Margate gallery in my landscape portfolio.
